The Stories No One Wants to See (But Everyone Needs to Hear)
Creating more happy endings by sharing the truth

Boonie Tails

Everyone loves a happy ending
We all love a happy ending, especially when it involves cute animals. From the tail-wagging homecomings to the naked, mangey dog to now beautiful fluff ball before and after shots, these stories leave us feeling happy and inspired. These are the viral moments that everyone wants to see, but those aren’t the stories we see.
Behind every happy ending, there are hundreds of dogs who don’t get that chance, especially on Saipan. Sharing these sad stories isn’t about click bait (as it actually has the opposite affect) or gaining sympathy, it’s about honesty and honoring their lives the only way can. We will never be able to save every dog, but we can make sure that their lives meant something.

These dogs were loved by us and now, they get to be loved by you. To all of you reading, thank you for being a part of our story as we work to make more happy endings possible.
Celebrating what we can
Last week, our Boonies received their first ever PR package from The Barkery, a Guam based pet product company who specializes in treats. We had so much fun unboxing our never ending package of goodies and the dogs are now busy applying to be full time taste testers. Help rescue dogs like ours by treating yours to some all natural, home baked treats! All treats are officially Boonie tested and approved, we recommend the Harry Potter themed treat bag!

Boonie of the Week
![]() Rusty on his gotcha day with his new mom and dad | Meet Mr. Rusty Bobby Gonzales! For the past few months, my boyfriend and I debated whether we were ready to bring a puppy into our lives. We already have Cali, our sweet and spunky 11-year-old Lab, and we knew she’d be the perfect teacher for a new pup. Inspired by Grace and Aria’s amazing work with Boonie Babies, I started looking into rescues. |
On September 19th, 2025, I had the day off work and fell down the “adoptable pets” rabbit hole. One look turned into hours of scrolling shelters and adoption newsletters, and before I knew it, I had full-blown puppy fever. I convinced my boyfriend to visit a puppy at the Denver Humane Society, but sadly, he and his siblings were recovering from parvo. We didn’t want to risk Cali’s health—so the search continued.

That’s when we learned about a brand-new litter at the Humane Society in Castle Rock. The grainy photos were enough to win me over, and by the time we drove the 30 minutes down, we were already tossing around puppy names.
Here’s where we met Mr. Rusty Bobby Gonzales. The shelter staff couldn’t stop talking about how adorable the new litter was, and as soon as we met Rusty, we knew he was ours. Within an hour, we were on our way home with him.
The moment he met Cali, their bond was instant. At just 8 weeks old, he was already following her everywhere and picking up on her cues. In his first week home, he’s learned his name, mastered “sit,” “potty,” and “papas” (food), conquered the stairs, and—miracle of miracles—sleeps through the night! We’re still working on puppy nibbles and potty training, but for 9 weeks old, he’s a rockstar.

Cali seems more lively than ever, and we feel so lucky to have found our little dude. We can’t wait to watch Rusty grow and to see the two of them continue to thrive together.
