Sounds like a cult

Referring to Boonie Babies as a cult may feel a bit dramatic but with such charismatic leaders and strong loyalty from our supporters, it might not be that far off.

 A cult is a group that centers around a shared devotion to a person, belief, or ideology. Requiring intense devotion and loyalty, these groups are known for using manipulation and control to enforce and maintain power. I hate to say it but what could be more manipulative than a Boonie Babies post featuring a starving animal that needs your donations to survive? Although we may be lacking key cult characteristics such as zero tolerance for criticism or questions or the mental and/or physical isolation of followers (flying volunteers out to a remote island might count here but we’re still gonna skip it), there’s no denying that Boonie Babies has some cult like tendencies.

Cult characteristics

• Devotion: There aren’t many groups out there that are as devoted as animal welfare and rescue organizations, especially Boonie Babies supporters. Our mission would not be possible with out the devotion of our followers who show up every day for us in different ways from all around the world.

• Charismatic Leader: Although we don’t have the authoritarian part to go with it, there’s no denying the charismatic leadership displayed by two women running around an island in bikinis rescuing dogs from caves and making parody videos about Brent Rivera. Fun Fact: our Brent Rivera Parody video is one of our most successful posts. It has nearly 6,000,000 views and gained us almost 17,000 new followers. Now THATS charisma 😉 .

• Demand Loyalty: When it comes to rescuing animals and promoting animal welfare, we do demand a certain level of loyalty. Our followers may be free to support our cause and other important issues in various ways but at the end of the day, they better be helping save the Boonies first and foremost no matter what!

• You Didn’t Know What You Were Getting Into: Whether you started following Boonie Babies because you know us or just happened to stumble across a cute dog video, you probably had no idea just what you were getting yourself into. Boonie Babies is not just a random Instagram account, its a life style and we could not be happier to be sharing it with you. Wether you have adopted a Boonie, enjoy our content, proudly rep your ‘Hot Girls Rescue Dogs’ shirt, or anything else in between, thanks for joining the ‘Cult of Boonie Babies’ (please know that this is a life long commitment and its too late to leave now so might as well bring your friends and family in too).

2) Not a puppy (Potty training, chewing, and whining - no thank you!)

3) Good with other dogs and kids.

Thanks to Boonie Babies fostering and vetting many different dogs with different personalities and needs, Aria knew which dog would be most compatible for us. And this is how we acquired Maisy.

Maisy is what you would call a bowl in a china cabinet. She is a bit clumsy and completely unaware of how strong and wild her tail can be. She is also easy going and cheerful. Her favorite activities include food, following Sallie around, and more food.

Each evening she curls up next to me on my pillow for cuddles and then retreats to the end of the bed to burrow herself in until the morning. All around, she is simply the best dog ever (just like her sister), except for her fear of cats.

Here are a few lessons I would like to share from this experience:

1) YES get that second dog! The more Boonies the better!

2) Make your requests known to the adopter/organization so that your new pet is compatible to your lifestyle. This will insure a successful adoption.

3) Dreams and quality of life are better when you allow your pets to sleep in the bed with you.

4) Adopt don’t shop. And more specifically, adopt from Boonie Babies!!!
