Boonie’s first Christmas

Although I think the girls (Lottie, Nellie, and Tequila) and I prefer our white Christmas to be from the sand and not snow, we are all excited to be celebrating our first Christmas together as a family. In true dog parent fashion, we will be driving from D.C. to Colorado so that our four legged children can join in on the festivities. Aria will also be flying in from Saipan, a true Christmas miracle!

Lottie is not sure about being the angel at the top of the tree full time this year. Not enough nap breaks…

Last year, Nellie, Lottie, and Tequila were in transit from Saipan to the States and got stuck in Seattle over the holidays due to some bad luck and expired health certificates. James and I were also in the process of moving across the world and landed in Denver Christmas Eve, but that’s a story for another time (thanks U.S. military). The season brings people (and dogs) together to love and to cherish, and we couldn’t be more thankful to be spending a (hopefully) more peaceful Christmas with them and the rest of our family this year.

Speaking of Christmas miracles, Henry began his long journey form Saipan to Colorado last Monday and just touched down a few hours ago! He has since been picked up by his mom and is officially home for the holidays.

Henry thrilled to be out of a crate and into a car instead of an airplane

If you or someone you know is interested in having their very own Boonie shipped right to their front door, please email us at [email protected] Although the shipping fee is around $3,000, that’s still significantly less than most people pay to purchase a dog anyways. Plus, you can’t put a price on saving a life! 😉

For all you doodle lovers out there, we even have one of those available too! Don’t worry, we still have Boonies of every size, shape, color, and activity level if that’s more of what you’re looking for. Please email DM us on Instagram to learn more about the process and our adoptable dogs.

Myth: Pet insurance doesn’t cover everything

Many pet owners worry that insurance won’t cover everything, especially routine care or pre-existing conditions. While that’s true in many cases, most insurers now offer wellness add-ons for preventive care like vaccines, dental cleanings, and check-ups, giving you more complete coverage. View Money’s pet insurance list to find plans for as low as $10 a month.

Boonie of the Week

Meet Harvest!

This two year old honorary Boonie is currently looking for his home at the Brandy Wine Valley SPCA in D.C. We recently had the pleasure of taking him out for a shelter skip day. He enjoyed helping us set up Christmas lights, an abundance of treats, watching a movie on the couch, lots of cuddle time, and a nice long walk before heading back to the shelter.

So many shelters have programs like this; ours is called ‘Borrow a Boonie’! Getting a dog out of the shelter for an afternoon is so much more than just a nice day, its an opportunity for them to practice being a pet! So many little things such as walking on a leash or riding in the car can be overwhelming for shelter dogs who don’t get to regularly experience them. Practicing these crucial skills can significantly improve their chances of getting adopted and help with a smooth transition from the shelter to home.

Whether it’s shelter skip day or petting cats, shelters have so many opportunities to get involved. This holiday season, consider making some new memories and a difference by reaching out to a shelter near you. #SaveTheBoonies
