The End of An Era

By now you’ve probably heard from the coconut chain (the island version of the grapevine) that Aria is making her way back to the mainland and that Boonie Babies will be gone forever! Although Aria is moving back to our hometown of Pueblo, CO to catch up on some much needed family time and start her own new personal adventures, Boonie Babies is not going anywhere! We personally may not be able to offer the ‘boots on the ground’ support like we have been but Boonie Babies is no longer just two girls, its an entire community.

We like to think that over the years, we have helped to equip and empower so many more individuals with the skills, information, and passion to get involved and make a difference. When we first started rescuing Boonie dogs, we never expected to be able to fill such a needed role on the island or for 600,000 people around the world to be rooting for us. Now, thanks to the support of so many people like you and other incredible individuals on the front lines with us, things online and on island look so much different. We have far greater access to medical care, a phenomenal group of active volunteers, and donations to fund our efforts. Boonie dogs that were supposed to be euthanized at the shelter now featured on pages like The Dogist and The Dodo. The community is fighting for the change they want to see. A change we are seeing.

The change is in individuals adopting dogs from us and sharing they are the first generation to own an indoor animal, in people bringing in their neighborhood strays for spay and neuter, in breeders surrendering their “Maltese” breeding dogs for them to have a chance at a better life. More and more people asking how they can help, and change keeps accelerating. It has been an honor to be a part of it.

So, what’s happening to Boonie Babies now that we won’t be living full-time on Saipan? Its only going to become bigger and better than ever! Aria and I may no longer be on island, but Saipan will always be our home. Whether we are working remotely on grants, sharing our story, and working on recruiting volunteers or flying back out (because you know we’ll be back sooner rather than later), we will still be playing an active role in saving the Boonies, plus so much more. This may be the end of this chapter, but we are still just at the beginning of our story; a story which we are now all writing together. To all of the Boonie lovers reading this; from Saipan, Guam, Canada, the U.S. mainland and everywhere in between: let’s go save some Boonies.
