Don't Be Loony, Live With a Boonie
Why you shouldn't let your fears stop you from being a dog parent
When Dylan Darling was a volunteer at Boonie Babies headquarters, he fell in love with a dog named Scar.

As a first-time dog owner, I knew I had big shoes to fill—especially because I was fortunate enough to see Scar, my boonie baby, progress back to health with Boonie Babies Rescue and then bring him from Saipan all the way to South Florida.
Scar and his sister Lottie in 2022. They were found, scared and starving, when Aria responded to a call saying puppies had been dumped at Marine Beach.
At first, I offered to foster, naturally intimidated by the prospect of owning my first dog, especially with how often I work and travel. Soon enough though, I realized those worries were in vain.
Scar was the most affectionate yet well-mannered dog I've ever met. Though he still gets plenty of zoomies, he is consistently gentle and affectionate. He's clever when he wants to be and he loves to act like a human—if I'm talking with somebody else, he will look back and forth between who's speaking as if he is in the conversation.

Like many foster dog parents, I caved to the love he had for me and I had for him. As a frequent traveler, I made sure to socialize him with my close friends as much as possible—that way he always has a comfortable environment when I'm away. While working, I made him playlists on my speaker of sounds to comfort him.
Initially, I was really worried about balancing the life of being single and teaching full-time on top of being a fully present dog parent. Now I realize those worries were misplaced, as Scar has acclimated to our busy lifestyle, and my friends have fallen madly in love with my boonie baby as well. In parenting, it takes a village—and luckily for me, my village could not get enough of Scar. My biggest piece of advice is to be proactive about keeping your dog socialized and consistently stimulated to allow them to have the dynamic life they deserve, as well as allowing you to have the dynamic life you deserve. | Boonie of the WeekScar is one of the lucky ones; by capturing Dylan’s eye, he was able to journey from the streets of Saipan to a home in South Florida. |
Looking back, I'd be crazy to have only fostered a dog as amazing as Scar.
Y'all... Don't be loony, adopt a boonie!
