Expanding Veterinary Care on Island

When we first started rescuing, we quickly realized that we were out numbered. No matter how many dogs we could help, there were always thousands more left behind and with such limited resources, the help we could provide wasn’t enough.

When a vet would come to island, which used to be only 2-3 times a year, we’d round up any and every Boonie Baby rescue, even driving to adopters houses to get them. We knew the only way to make a difference was through spay and neuter to reduce the population. Therefore, we were not going to let any dog or cat we rescued contribute to the problem or suffer the vicious reproduction cycle they go through in the wild. As time went on, access to this surgery became more limited even as the need for it grew. So with no resources or experience, we decided to open our own spay and neuter focused clinic.

Aria with a Boonie Baby rescue whose surgery was covered by your donations

Due to nothing short of a miracle and an unbelievable team coming together, Boonie Babies hosted its first spay and neuter clinic in 2022. In just a few short weeks, hundreds of animals were fixed. Just as importantly, a new, dynamic, animal rescuing duo was born: Lauren and Ruby of Saipan Humane Society. Today, Saipan Humane Society (SHS) regularly hosts spay and neuter clinics, providing the most consistent and affordable access to veterinary care the island has seen in over a decade.

This past weekend, SHS hosted their most recent clinic with our Boonie Babies team there to help ensure a smooth, safe flow of surgeries. So far, 93 dogs have been fixed and they’re just getting started! Access to spay and neuter is truly life changing for animals and humans alike, making these some of the most rewarding days of rescue. Thank you Saipan Humane Society and everyone involved on island making this happen!

Not only did the Saipan community show up for this clinic, but so did our Boonie Babies following from across the world. With my birthday fundraiser, we were able to raise $1,875 which is enough to cover 25 surgeries for my 25th Birthday. To all who donated to make this happen, thank you. Your donations will be used to help animals for this clinic and more to come.

Boonie of the Week

Tora with her human siblings the day she got adopted

Meet Tora!

Despite being “literally the most temperamentally perfect girl ever” according to Aria, Tora was surrendered by her past owner to the shelter. Lucky for this Boonie, she caught Aria’s eye and was pulled from the euthanasia list. Her new family says: “Since Tora came into our lives, things have definitely gotten a lot more exciting! With her came new responsibilities, plenty of laughter, and a whole lot of love. We’re so happy to have her as part of our family and to watch her grow alongside us. She’s definitely still in her puppy phase; chewing things up and getting into everything, but her energy fits right in with ours, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.”

Tora, along with many other Boonie Babies rescues was spayed this weekend. We couldn’t be more happy to watch this Boonie begin her new life.
